On Thursday, January 27, the Board continued its systems speaker series with its sixth session, which focused on the federal IT acquisition process and its implications for Social Security’s IT modernization and cybersecurity efforts.
The current FAS lead for IT, Laura Stanton, described government IT spending and the GSA acquisition services available to federal agencies, including Social Security, to reduce risk, achieve better pricing, and speed acquisition time. Stanton’s predecessor, Bill Zielinski, Social Security’s CIO and Deputy Commissioner of Systems from 2013 and 2015 and now CIO for the City of Dallas, shared Social Security’s technology purchasing posture and how the agency fits into the federal IT spending profile.
